Lesson 1

Beat is the heart beat of music.

Check out the metronome! A metronome helps musicians keep a steady beat. Click the yellow play button to hear a steady beat.

You can change how fast or how slow it goes. Click on Largo for very slow. Click on Prestissimo for very fast. Try the other ones for every speed in between!

You can also change what kind of sound the metronome makes. Do you want a beep, clank, clap, click, or tap?

Click on each item to hear if it has a steady beat. Four items make a steady beat and go on the green shelf. Four different items do not make a steady beat and need to go on the orange shelf.

Click the play button for each track. Put the steady beat in your body by clapping the beat or tapping the beat.

Then you will know which jumper is jumping up at the same time as the music’s steady beat.

See the video below to help you find the steady beat.

So a composer is someone who writes music.

And the music that a composer writes is called a composition.

That means a composer composes compositions!

Now you get to compose a steady beat song!

Click on some white squares below to fill in the color. Then click the big yellow play button to hear your composition.

Click the stop button to make changes to your composition.
