Music styles changed over time.

 

In the Watch It section you were introduced to the first five musical periods. Click the play buttons in the activity below to hear a new example of each period.

Do your best to guess which musical period you heard. You can click on the question marks to see the answers.

 

This list of hints should help you recognize the periods:

  • Medieval = monophonic

  • Renaissance = polyphonic (they sang or used older instruments)

  • Baroque = polyphonic (they used more modern instruments)

  • Classical = homophonic

  • Romantic = usually polyphonic and dramatic
