Homeschool headline: Empowering parents who have busy schedules, limited resources, and minimal music training to include music learning in the lives of their children
self-paced online music courses that take your musicianship to the next level
covers ear and reading training, teaches rhythm and pitch, fill in the learning gaps to take musicianship to the next level
mastery based learning
"break through the ceiling" and "fill in the learning gaps" and "Ready for the next level?" and "Teaching the whole musician" and "Music Literacy"
create 3 supporting messages for the headline - enable independent musicianship for 3 audiences: casual exposure (Foundational courses), community player (intermediate courses), music career (advanced courses)
If you are in a music group or take private lessons, you get only minutes of direct feedback each week. What if you could look at your music, sing or play it, and then self evaluate?
Taking ownership of learning to become independent musicians…don’t wait for your teacher to tell you that you made a mistake. The student can identify and do something about it.
joy of doing music - to open your ears and eyes to the music around you
Music performance requires reading comprehension, discerning ear, and mechanical execution. MM brings two of those elements to performing success and provides support for your music lesson….brings automaticity / become instinctive to performance through music literacy
What if video….10 sec one for website header, 30 sec for marketing
What if you could…
read treble and bass clef fluently?
read all the key signatures?
play in more time signatures?
analyze chords?
look at music and hear it in your head?
hear a tune and write it down?
access it any time?
was all online?
something for all learners?
This music course is very flexible and intended to accommodate learners of all skill levels. Those with little music background can start at the very beginning, and experienced musicians can quickly progress through the beginning lessons while filling in any gaps in their foundational knowledge. Lesson activities give instant feedback. Each lesson takes about 20 minutes.
What to Expect
Stuff You Need
You do not need any instruments or books.
You do need a computer or tablet with internet access. A phone screen is too small for many of the activities.
If you use a tablet, download the Canvas Student app for the best experience.
Navigating Canvas
You can access your learning activities for twelve months. If you need more time to finish the course, you can re-enroll at MyMusicality.com.
Levels
Some activities have only a few difficulty levels. Some have hundreds of levels spread over many courses.
Modules
There are practice modules and checkpoint modules that hold your activities. There is no calendar to follow. You can do one module a day, or spread a module over a few days, or do multiple modules in a single day.
Grades
Practice Modules
The practice modules are not graded for accuracy. You will receive points for completing practice module activities. You may practice the practice activities as many times as you want, but repeating them will not change your grade.
If you are an experienced musician, you may choose to skip practice modules. But be smart about it because the next modules only get harder.
Checkpoint Modules
You must pass each checkpoint module to unlock the next unit. A passing grade for checkpoint modules is 80%.
You may attempt the checkpoint as many times as you want. The gradebook will record your highest grade. For example, if you score a 90% and then an 80% on that checkpoint activity, the gradebook will keep your 90%.
Badges
You will earn a badge for every module you complete. Your badges will not expire.
COURSE GOALS
Your Ear Training goal is for you to dictate 4-measure melodies using scale degrees 1, 2, 3, -7 (do, re, mi, & ti) in the time signatures 4/4 (whole notes and half notes) and 6/8 (dotted half notes and dotted quarter notes).
The course goals of Reading Training Step 1 is that the student will 1) identify note names on the staff for both treble clef and bass clef, 2) write out the C Major scale, and 3) read and perform 2-measure rhythms at 60 bpm in the time signatures 4/4, 3/4, and 2/4 (half notes and rests, quarter notes and rests, and eighth notes) and at 60 bpm in the time signature 6/8 (dotted quarter notes and dotted half notes).
